Sons!

Children are sweet and a treasure to hold. We all agree that grown-ups are very distinct from Children. We all start up as children and then we gradually become all grown. In the natural, children are cared for by their parents. They are fed, taught, led and instructed. They are given set of rules to adhere strictly to primarily because they do not know their left from their right, much more right from wrong. Infants are fed with milk and liquid food because they are not mature enough to eat meat and crack bones. Gradually, these little infants grow until they are of full age. They are now equipped enough to chew meat and crack bones because they have grown teeth. Their parents entrust them with greater responsibilities because they now have a sense of good judgement- at least adequate enough to make right decisions. They are not treated like toddlers anymore and the little things their parents once overlooked may not necessarily be overlooked anymore being that their parents expect they should know better. These are the stages of physical growth which are similar to growth in the Spirit but in the spiritual sense of cause.

I have been looking at this scripture for a while now

“Strong meat belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by the reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” Hebrews 5:14

At first, I couldn’t really understand it, but thank God for the Holy Ghost who teaches us all things. I want to relate this to sonship!

God is our Father! Jesus came to make us joint-heirs and Sons of God. Sonship is being led by God’s spirit. Sonship takes a process. Most believers after being born again, start up as children and then grow gradually into maturity. They grow up to become Sons! I’d like to make reference to this:

“And the Child {Jesus} grew, and waxed strong in Spirit filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon Him” Luke 2:40

This is my perfect description of spiritual growth. This is the process of Sonship I’m talking about. Every believer is to wax strong in spirit, be filled with wisdom and God’s grace. It’s no news that our spirit man is the real man and so, it is this man that is to grow to the fullness of the measure of the stature of Christ. Jesus came not only to purge us completely of our sins but to make us like Him. Truth is, we all do not start at that point. We are supposed to grow- to wax strong in Spirit! This is the process where the Spirit man dominates the body and soul! This is the process where the Spirit man mortifies the deeds of the flesh- the body subject to sin. This is where the Spirit man is in control!

Back to our ‘strong meat’ scripture, men of full age, men that have grown, Sons, can be trusted by God to discern between good and evil. They have so built up their Spirit man to the extent that they can sense evil miles away. They can sense dirt buried deep down in a rap of Gold.

As we grow in grace, faith, love and purity, Abba entrusts greater responsibilities into our hands. He commits large things into our hands. He treats us like every father will treat His grown up son. The hard part also is, when we err, He chastens us because He doesn’t want us to perish like unbelievers. Haha! This is the strong meat I’m talking about. The good part of this also is that, He chastens us in LOVE so that at the end, we will not be a cast away! He chastens us for our own profit that at the end, we will be partakers of His holiness and may reign with Him in the World to come. If only believers recognise that chastisement is not condemnation but an act of love, they will not see it as punishment. God will never ever ever ever again punish you if you err. Jesus has taken on Himself, the punishment for your sins. However, He will chasten you. We know that God is love and whatever He does is done in Love. Jesus learnt Obedience by the things He suffered. Haha! Yes the Son of God LEARNT OBEDIENCE. If we are to relate with God as Sons, he will toughen us and shake us and stretch us and yet pour out His love and grace in us. Like Gold through fire, you’d come out holier and wiser. Like someone once said, “God gives His hardest battles to His toughest soldiers.” I couldn’t agree more!

Now, the big question is, How does one wax strong in Spirit.

(A) Study your bible and meditate on the Word

(B) Pray often in the Holy Ghost (in tongues or and in human language as the Spirit leads). You build up your Spirit man by this.

(C) Feed Your spirit man with things that will build it rather than deaden it. If your Spirit is still young, protect your eye and ear gates jealously.

This is why John told the Church to grow in grace and in the Knowledge of Jesus. This is that we may attain Sonship. That we may not be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. That we may be like Jesus in every ramification. That He (Jesus) may present us to God as a church Holy, spotless and blameless. 🙂

We cannot deny that sin grieves God. If Christ who fully paid for the purging of our sins sees us continue in it even with His God-like nature in us because we allow our flesh control us, aren’t we saying to God that His son’s sacrifice on the cross was a waste?

So beloved, I leave you with the words of John the beloved and Apostle Paul

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. To Him be all the glory both now and for ever. Amen!” 1 John 3:18

“If you live after the flesh, you will die but if you through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit, they are the SONS of God” Romans 8:13&14

The New testament in 130Days; Day 6

Commentary on matthew 11 and 12

Matthew 11

Jesus said,
“Come to me all ye who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart and ye will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Vrs 28-30

Each time I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders, I reminisce this particular scripture. This was Christ’s first open invitation to the World. It’s a beautiful invitation. It just gives me peace each time I read it. He was eagerly reaching to relieve man from not only their burdens and yokes, but also that of the works of the Law.

The Law was indeed very hard to fulfil so indirectly He was asking them to try His own yoke (believing in Him) which was lighter and easier and this meant ‘follow me’.

If Jesus was to say this same statement to this generation, He’d probably say something like this;

“Try me, all of you who work so hard to fulfil religious practices. I won’t place pressure on you like religion would. The things I require of you are not pressurising like the Law. There is rest in me if you would just follow me and trust me.
Learn how to be like me. I’m gentle and humble and easy to relate with. I’m not judgemental or fault finding. I’ll rather have mercy on you than judge you any day.”

Thankfully, He is the same yesterday, today and forever, still reaching out to souls to come to Him and follow Him. Jesus said something that struck me. He said;

“. . . Learn of me for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your soul. AMP”

Jesus was asking us to learn to be like Him, who is gentle and humble and then, we will find rest for our souls. Could this mean that, most times than not, the reason for unrest in our lives is because of our aggression, pride, arrogance, stubbornness, strong-headedness, and fault-finding? Are we always judging, criticising and find faults in others? Truth is, if we are hard, critical and if we constantly judge others, we will end up living unhappy lives. Most people are so unhappy because they are hard and constantly point accusing fingers at others. There is absolutely no way, you will continue to point accusing fingers without first being judged by people and secondly, by yourself. Yes! You will judge yourself. Paul said He doesn’t even judge himself. How much more another man? You will always find fault in yourself if you continue to find/point out the faults in others. Here are my words.

Let’s go back to His word and learn from Him for He is gentle and humble and we will most certainly find rest for our souls. His commandments are not grievous. His yoke (His requirement of you) is not burdensome. They are light and easy to be borne. Just believe in Him.

Matthew 12

And whosoever shall do the will of my father, which is in heaven, the same is my brother, sister and mother. Vrs 50

Ok, your guess is as good as mine. This ‘will of my father’ word spoken by Jesus is serious business. In the above verse, in essence He was trying to say, that whoever does the will of my father is related, has a connection with me. We read in previous chapters where Jesus said that only those that do the will of His father will enter the kingdom of heaven. We should know God’s will for us collectively as Christians and singularly as individually.

Jesus was really serious about christians, accomplishing God’s will for their lives. God’s will for Jesus was that He die for mankind and reconcile us back to Him. Now I throw the question back at us, what is God’s will for Your life?

Asides this, in the New testament books, God’s will for all Christians generally was stated.

1) Thessalonians 4:3-7 [NLT]
God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor, not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. Never harm or cheat a Christian brother in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives.

2) 1 Thessalonians 5:18. [NKJV]
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

3) 1 Peter 2:15-16 [NLT]
It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you.
For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.

4) Ephesians 5: 18-21 [NKJV]
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.

5)Ephesians 6:6-7 [AMP]
Not in the way of eye-service [as if they were watching you] and only to please men, but as servants (slaves) of Christ, doing the will of God heartily and with your whole soul; Rendering service readily with good will, as to the Lord and not to men.

Now this is the Father’s will!

The New Testament in 130days; Day 1.

Commentary on Matthew 1 & 2

I and My bible study Family #LA130 are embarking on a journey around the new testament in 130 days. Revelation has been pouring in, Bless God, and I thought it would be rather cool to blog our thoughts for during 130 days. So I’ve dedicated my 130 days to studying the books and writing. I’m sure, I’d not have to write everyday, but I’ll most definitely write as Led by His spirit. Let’s learn, shall we?

MATTHEW 1
So, let’s start from the very beginning. Let’s talk about the genealogy of Jesus! Let’s speak on genealogies in general. I believe they was put in scripture, not by mistake but so that we could learn and so that Jesus Christ can be revealed before our eyes. Let’s search for Jesus. Let’s dig deeper.

Jesus as correctly recorded descended from Abraham and King David. God promised Abraham in Gen 17: 6 & 7 that,
“I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings shall come out of you. I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the God of your descendants after you.”

That promise was fulfilled by Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection. Time after time, we see promises and prophecies being fulfilled in scripture. Well, it really is proof that God is not slack concerning His promises. Whatever He has promised, He shall fulfil. What has God promised over your life? All you need do is Believe. ONLY BELIEVE!

Not only did, Jesus, The King of Kings come forth from the lineage of Father Abraham, we also were made Kings through Jesus. Every Christian, is father Abraham’s child by faith because just like Him, we believed in the Lord Jesus and it has been counted unto us as righteousness, and so, the promise of kings coming out of Him, has been fulfilled in us. We are kings by believing in Jesus. There is also more proof that we were made kings. John, in revelation 1: 6 said,

“And He (Jesus) has made us kings and priests unto God and His father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever, Amen!”

So how exactly did we become kings and priests? Through Jesus! What do kings do? They rule! They Judge! They have dominion! We were made kings to rule and dominate the earth. The Authority that Adam traded in the garden of Eden has been restored to the Sons of God. We were made to rule. God’s original plan in Gen 1: 28 where He told man to have dominion has been fulfilled. Now you know that being Born of God, you have legal rights to rule your world bought by the blood of Jesus!

“Do you not know that saints shall judge the world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matter?
Know ye not that ye shall judge angels? How much more things that pertain to this life?” 1st corinthians 6:2 & 3.

NLT says “Don’t you realize that someday we believers will judge the world?”

This is another proof of kingship. Kings judge! Solomon the wise king, had wisdom to be an effective ruler and judge over his people. Every believer in Jesus is a king and will judge both angels and this World!

Kings have Authority. Jesus said,
“I have given you authority to trample upon snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means harm you”
This is another infallible proof of your Kingship!

Moving on, Four women were in Jesus’ genealogy. Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Tamar. The first 2 were gentiles and the last 2, Jews. Thus, Christ descended from both Jew and gentile to save both Jew and gentile! Hallelujah! This is where we gentiles were grafted in not also forgetting that we are grafted in by faith in the son of God too to be heirs of the promise.

MATTHEW 2
Jesus’ star was seen in the East. The sun rises in the East. I believe, this wasn’t a co-incidence. I can therefore liken Jesus to the sun. These were pointers to Jesus’ divinity. Let’s look at some characteristics of the sun. The sun is the Largest, brightest star in the Solar system and I bet the largest in our galaxy. It is the source of all human life and without it all living things will die. Humans, plants animals, both terrestrial and aquatic depend on the sun. Life would not exist on earth without the sun. Part of the reasons why some planets cannot be inhabited is the because sunlight doesn’t get to their planet. Even at night, the sun reflects on the moon which then gives light to the earth. No wonder He is called the bright and morning Star. I once heard scientists say that if the Sun should ever stop burning, all human life will become extinct. I can say the same for Jesus Christ! Human life will cease to exist without Him.

In order words, I can conclude that Jesus is the source of all human life just like the Sun is. After all, John attests to that.

“All things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life and that life was the light of men . . . That was the true light that lights every man that comes into the world.”

And Jesus Himself said “I am the Light of the World.” I give Light to every human being! In darkness, I am light!

Now, Wise men saw the star and traced the star till they found Jesus! I believe that was no co-incidence either. Did you ever wonder why it wasn’t the scribes or the pharisees or the teachers of the Law that saw His star? It was three wise men. According to History, The Wise men were men of unknown nationality or country. However, they were of priestly hereditary caste. They uttered prophecies, explained omens, interpreted dreams e.t.c. They were men in touch with the spirit realm. Aren’t christians of today supposed to be like these wise men who saw Jesus? We are spiritual men to be constantly in touch with the spirit of God.

So, who are wise men? They are men that shun evil. They are men of discernment. They are men of the Spirit. They are men who fear(reverend) the Lord, for they understand that the fear of the Lord is the beginning and their source of wisdom. They are priests, offering spiritual sacrifices unto God of worship and praise. They are men that offer their bodies too as living sacrifices. They are pure in heart. They are men of understanding.

Make no mistake about this, every wise man, just like those three wise men who followed Jesus’ star, will behold His beauty someday. They will behold the Risen king and reign with Him!

Even as a Child, Jesus was worshipped. Didn’t God instruct in his commandments that
we were not bow down to any other God asides Him? So how come Jesus wasn’t struck like King Herod who allowed glory to be showered upon Him instead of giving glory to God. I’ll tell you why. It’s because, Jesus is God Himself. He is the Angel of the Lord’s presence. The Very God of Very God! Fully man, Fully God! There are other places in scripture Jesus was worshipped that proves His God head.
